Tartan Lacrosse Programs Have Winning Weekend
Both boys and girls programs picked up crucial victories.
St. Margaret's lacrosse programs faced off against talented opponents this past weekend and came away with convincing wins.
Boys Lacrosse
The Tartans fended off a determined Mater Dei squad, winning 13-9 in non-league action Saturday night. Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions and a 4-2 Monarch lead at the end of the first quarter, the Tartans clawed back to a 7-6 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Austin Hicks had a monster of a night, with 7 points on 5 goals and an assist, with Caswell Friedman and Carson Barber notching 2 goals apiece. Goalkeeper Eben O'Brien made 9 saves on the night.
The 12-2 Tartans, ranked No.1 in CIF Southern Section Div. I, will next take on No. 2 Loyola High School (13-4) on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. on Tartan Field.
Update: St. Margaret's squeaked by Loyola 6-4.
Girls Lacrosse
St. Margaret's downed visiting Poway High 18-6 on Friday evening on Tartan Field to improve to 8-6 on the year.
Mackenzie Farley led the Tartans with 16 draw wins, 8 goals and an assist to power St. Margaret's past the Titans. Scarlett Welsome (3g, 2a), Grace Burke (3g, 2a) and Greta Blau (2g, 2a) supported in the win. Goalkeeper Kaitlin McRae stymied Poway all afternoon, making 14 saves on 20 shots.
The No. 8 in CIF-SS Div. 1/2 Tartans face Francis Parker on Monday, April 15, at 4 p.m. on Tartan Field.
Update: The Tartans downed the Lancers 15-8.
