Track & Field Excels at Orange Coast League Tri-Meet

The Tartans had a record-setting outing yesterday.
St. Margaret's track & field program matched up against talented Calvary Chapel-Santa Ana and Saddleback High School squads in Orange Coast League action on Thursday.

The Tartans girls team faced off against their toughest match-up this season with Calvary Chapel-Santa Ana, who finished No. 2 behind St. Margaret's at last year's Orange Coast League Championships, and looked to de-throne the Tartans. The Tartan 4x100 team would have a strong performance in the event and won with a time of 50.4, posting a season-best time. Ava Klausner would finish 2nd in the high jump, posting a new PR of 4'10 and nearly missing the 5'0 mark. Elie Shook also had a great day, posting an all-time best of 1:03.63 in the 400m. Joyce Li would also pick up a win in the 3200m (12:51.75) events. The 4x400 team would close out the meet with a win (4:29.63) and seal the victory for the Tartans.

The boy's squad had a dominant performance in the meet, winning both match-ups very convincingly. The 4x100 team would post a season's best time (45.61) and win their event to start the day off. Everett Capelle continued his strong season by picking up wins in the 800m (2:01.20) and the 3200m (10:26.35). Ryder Shaw would also go on to win the triple jump with a jump of 39 feet, with Ocean Heim placing 2nd with a jump of 38 feet. Mark Cyr would cap off the evening by breaking the school record in the discus with a throw of 136-11. The previous record was 134-7 held by Kevin Maghami '06.

The Tartans will next compete at the Russell Cup Challenge Invitational in Carpenteria on Saturday, April 13.
