The Tartans avenged a 2023 postseason defeat with the win Tuesday.
St. Margaret's boys lacrosse team downed Foothill High School 9-4 on the road Tuesday night to improve to 12-2 on the year. The Tartans went on a 6-0 scoring run in the first half to keep the Knights on the back foot all evening. The win marks the first time St. Margaret's had defeated Foothill since 2019 in the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Championship game.
The Tartans were led by Carson Barber (2g, 1a) and Andrew Toubin (2g, 1a), while Austin Hicks and Johnny Iavarone added two goals apiece. Conor McKenna notched a goal and an assist in the win.
Defensively, goalkeeper Eben O'Brien made seven clutch saves, with Reece Ballard having two caused turnovers. Matt Arena played shut-down defense all night for the Tartans.
"Foothill always does a good job of throwing some sort of defensive wrinkle out there that isn’t necessarily normal so I thought our guys were poised and worked through that," head coach Brian Kelly said. "Our guys weathered the storm and made plays when they needed to."
The Tartans will next take on Orange County power Mater Dei (10-2) on Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. on Tartan Field.
