PHOTOS: US Tartan Jam Showcases Talented Student Performers

The Upper School Tartan Jam this week featured 22 student acts performing in McGregor Family Theater.

 

Director of Performing Arts Dan Pacheco describes the purpose of the Tartan Jam as being an informal and low-stakes performance opportunity for students across different performing arts. To participate, students just sign up with Band Director Chris Carbajal. Pacheco says, “That’s how we grow students to be better performers.” 

 

The lineup featured Jazz Band playing a few numbers with Sophia Kistler ‘24 as vocalist. There were a few duets, pairing vocalists with another vocalist or with guitarist, pianist, etc. Senior Alex Kim performed with a three-piece musical group, including bass, piano and drums. Dancer Paige Minton ’26 performed a self-choreographed piece to music that Els Page ‘24 composed. Tessa Maryott ‘25 performed a song she wrote and performed on piano. 

 

The supportive audience packed every seat in the theater. They were encouraged to clap and be supportive of each performer which created a positive experience. At least one audience member, a junior, said he was inspired by the talent to participate in the upcoming Tartan Revue. The lighting for this performance was overseen by Gavin Shams ’26.
