Early-Childhood Educators Visit St. Margaret’s for Insight into the Importance of Learning Environments

The event was titled “The Importance of Learning Environments” and included a tour of St. Margaret’s Early School learning environments, including the Outdoor Classroom, the atelier and the Demonstration Lab.
St. Margaret’s hosted more than 50 local early-childhood educators this week for an OC Reggio Roundtable event led by Early School Director Cris Lozon and Early School teacher Hope Petrozzi. 
 
The event was titled “The Importance of Learning Environments” and included a tour of St. Margaret’s Early School learning environments, including the Outdoor Classroom, the atelier and the Demonstration Lab. Dr. Lozon also presented to the guests, sharing her insight into the learning environment at St. Margaret’s as well as inspiration she brought back from a recent visit to the Rhode Island School of Design. 
 
"The event was much appreciated by the early childhood school community in and around Orange County, inspiring others to think about their own environments and children’s learning," Dr. Lozon said. "The dedicated Early School faculty generously shared their valuable insights with directors and teachers about their experiences in their own classrooms, atelier, Outdoor Classroom, and Demonstration Lab. I heard from several of the participants that they were inspired by the work we do at St. Margaret’s Early School."

The Orange County Reggio Roundtable is a group of early-childhood educators whose work aligns with or is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching. St. Margaret’s play-based, research-based academic program has roots in constructivist teaching and Reggio Emilia.

Mrs. Petrozzi is a member of the executive board for the OC Reggio Roundtable.
