The Early Childhood School was transformed into a magical showcase of student learning on Thursday, as the 5th annual WOW Night brought families to St. Margaret’s for a celebration of the meaningful play-based learning that took place throughout the school year.
WOW, or Works of Wonder, is an annual event in the Early Childhood School, where families are invited to visit classrooms and see student work and student-led projects. Families visited classrooms, the atelier (art studio), the Demonstration Lab and the Outdoor Classroom.
“WOW Night is a culmination of weeks and months of hard work and dedication by our children and educators,” Early Childhood School Director Dr. Cris Lozon said. “It is an event designed to provide an opportunity for the children to share their learning in a fun and interactive way. Through the exhibit, the children demonstrate their knowledge of stories, scientific observations, transportation, mapping, and more.”
Early School families came together for community and fellowship as children moved swiftly between classrooms with their loved ones in tow, eager to show off the learning that took place during the year. Attendees enjoyed food and refreshments, reconnecting with families and interacting with the Early Childhood School’s expert faculty.
St. Margaret’s Early Childhood School is a play- and researched-based academic program with roots in constructivist teaching and the renowned Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. Reggio Emilia schools have a design of openness to community and a willingness to share ideas, which inspired the first WOW Night in 2019.
