Grade 4 students transformed their understanding of California’s history into a vibrant, hands-on celebration during Lower School’s annual “California Day,” an interactive culmination of their social sciences curriculum.
The full-day experience, titled Walk Through California, invited students to step into key moments from the formation of the state through engaging drama, dance, and music performances. Grade 4 students helped narrate California’s development, bringing historical events and figures to life in an energetic and memorable way.
Following the performance portion of the day, students rotated through a series of interactive workshop stations led by parent volunteers. Activities included crafting arrowhead necklaces, exploring the senses through spice-smelling stations, building telescopes to observe constellations, and “mining” for gold—each designed to deepen students’ connection to California’s rich history and diverse natural resources.
Dressed in period-inspired costumes, students then gathered in the Fountain Courtyard for a festive sit-down lunch, rounding out the immersive experience with a shared community meal.
The event highlighted St. Margaret’s commitment to experiential learning, where academic concepts are reinforced through creativity, collaboration, and active participation.
