Jack Stahl '23 Having a Breakout Year for Princeton Lacrosse
Stahl has recently been added to the Tewaaraton Watchlist, collegiate lacrosse's highest award.
Jack Stahl, class of 2023, and a starting close defenseman on Princeton University men's lacrosse team, is having himself a year for the Tigers.
Stahl earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week and USILA Team of the Week honors for his performance in a 20-9 win over Rutgers on March 7. Stahl held the Scarlet Knights' top attackman to one goal on six shots, with two caused turnovers.
Big performances in big games has been par for the course for Stahl this season for Princeton. In an 11-7 upset win against perennial powerhouse Syracuse, Stahl shut down Joey Spallina, arguably one of the best attackmen in Division I lacrosse, holding him to no goals and no assists. Stahl followed that up two days later against North Carolina, limiting the Tarheel's Owen Duffy to one goal in an 11-9 Tiger win. Most recently, Stahl blanked Lehigh's Luke Breslin, the Mountain Hawks' leading scorer, holding Breslin to no goals while also causing two turnovers. Stahl has 5 games this season where he has caused more turnovers than the player he was guarding had goals.
Stahl's performances have gained the attention of the Tewaaraton Foundation, which celebrates athletic accomplishments and extraordinary character in male and female collegiate lacrosse players, while preserving and honoring the rich Native American heritage of the sport. The Tewaaraton Award is an annual honor recognizing the most outstanding American college lacrosse men's and women's players. Stahl was recently named to the Tewaaraton Watchlist by the foundation.
At St. Margaret's, Stahl was a four-year varsity team member, an Adrenaline Lacrosse and U.S. Lacrosse All-American, a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American and captained the team in 2023.
