Boys Volleyball to Compete For Second Consecutive CIF Championship
The Tartans will face El Segundo on May 13.
St. Margaret's boys volleyball is set to make its second consecutive CIF Finals appearance on a quest to secure the fourth title in program history as it draws El Segundo in the Div. III championship game.
The Tartans defeated Alemany 3-0 in the semifinal round on Saturday, continuing a postseason run that has not seen St. Margaret's drop a set. However, Alemany gave the Tartans a bit of trouble in the second set, jumping out to a 13-4 lead before St. Margaret's turned up the pressure with Luke Balint providing some key blocks to shut down the Warriors' momentum. Reed Wainwright continued a dominating playoff run with 27 kills, while Luke Reinkensmeyer contributed 8 kills in the win.
The Tartans are hoping Saturday for a repeat of the 2022 CIF Div. IV final that saw St. Margaret's defeat Capistrano Valley Christian 3-0 to claim their third CIF Championship. The Tartans were previously champions in 2001 and 2010 and runners-up in 2003, 2009 and 2015. Standing in the way of a fourth title for the 30-5 Tartans is a seasoned 22-3 El Segundo squad that defeated Fairmont Prep 3-1 to advance.
St. Margaret's and El Segundo will face off Saturday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. at Cerritos College.
