St. Margaret's Track & Field Warms Up For CIF Finals Appearance

The Tartans used the preliminary round to sharpen their focus.
St. Margaret’s track & field competed at the CIF Div. IV Track & Field Qualifier on Saturday, May 6, at Carpinteria High School, with nearly every athlete achieving a personal best result.

Everett Capelle qualified in the 3200m, winning his heat for an automatic qualifying bid for the finals. Everett has set himself up for a potential podium finish at the finals. Joyce Li also advanced to the finals in the 3200m going in with the No.7 seed time, and currently has the No.2 time in school history. The girls' 4x100 continued their strong season by qualifying for the finals with a time of 49.68 which gives them the 3rd all-time mark in school history. Sophia Kistler would lead the 4x100 by having a strong performance in the relay and personal best times in the 400m with a time of 1:01.55 (10th all-time) and the 200m with a time of 26.30 (4th all-time).

"This is one of the youngest teams we've taken to a CIF Prelim round and the kids did an amazing job," said head coach Edgar Vazquez. "Just about every athlete had a personal best mark on Saturday, and you can't ask for anything more. I cannot wait to watch our remaining athletes compete in the CIF Championships. I anticipate all of them having a shot at the podium this weekend, which will make for a very exciting day."

The Tartans will travel to Moorpark High School to compete in the CIF-SS Div. IV Finals on Saturday, May 13.

Good luck, Tartans!
