St. Margaret’s Technology Leaders Share Expertise at ATLIS Conference
The ATLIS annual conference brings school leaders together to discuss the latest trends, challenges and innovation in educational technology.
St. Margaret’s Director of Educational Technology and Library Angela Mackenzie recently presented and shared insight on St. Margaret’s strategic direction on topics ranging from artificial intelligence to social media education last week at the annual conference for the Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools.
The conference was in Grand Rapids, Mich., and several St. Margaret’s technology leaders attended. Joining Mrs. Mackenzie were Director of Enterprise Technology Nikki Imai and Academic Research Technologist Stacey von Winckelmann, both of whom participated in workshops and attended presentations and panels.
Insight into St. Margaret’s educational technology strategy proved popular at the conference. As part of a presentation alongside The Social Institute founder and CEO Laura Tierney, Mrs. Mackenzie shared successes of St. Margaret’s digital mentor program, in which the school uses The Social Institute’s digital citizenship and social media curriculum to teach students about responsible online use, supporting peers online and protecting privacy. St. Margaret’s felt the lessons would be more impactful if taught by Upper School Peer Counselors in a mentor relationship, an innovation which has attracted the attention of schools across the country.
Mrs. Mackenzie also served as panelist at a summit organized by ATLIS and the National Association of Independent Schools titled “Educational Leadership in the Age of AI” which addressed the potential impact of artificial intelligence in education, and explored innovative ways that schools are utilizing AI in the classroom.
ATLIS is a professional association dedicated to empowering schools to thrive through technology leadership. Its annual conference brings school leaders together to discuss the latest trends, challenges and innovation in educational technology.
