Tartan Tennis Battles Long Beach Poly to Advance in CIF Div. III Championships
Dillan Grover put St. Margaret's ahead via a tie-breaker.
The Tartan boys tennis team survived an evenly-matched Long Beach Poly squad to advance to the CIF-SS Second Round, winning 10-8 in tie-breakers.
After playing to a 9-9 (79-79 games) deadlock, the Tartans and Jackrabbits were forced to a tie-breaker round where Dillan Grover sealed the win for St. Margaret's. The Tartans received outstanding performances from the doubles teams of Cole Roberts/Dawson Mai and Daniel Cai/Justin Qiao, sweeping their regular doubles sets with Roberts and Mai winning all three tie-breaker sets as well.
"It was a true team win yesterday; everyone stepped up and contributed. In such a close match, each game and point matters so much that all the boys provided something for the team," said head coach Scott Lipsky. "I am very proud of all the boys for their team effort, and I am excited to play our second round tomorrow against Nordhoff."
The Tartans travel to Ojai to take on Nordhoff High School on Friday, May 5.
