Tartan Girls Basketball Continues to Roll, Upends Mater Dei Catholic in State First Round

St. Margaret's cruised in a 50-36 win over the Crusaders Tuesday.
Fresh off its CIF-SS championship last weekend, St. Margaret’s earned a berth in the CIF State Playoffs and started its run with a 50-36 win over Mater Dei Catholic of Chula Vista on Tuesday evening.

Jayden Witten continued her spectacular postseason run, adding 16 points and 8 rebounds to an impressive freshman year campaign. Taylor Francois (10 pts, 13 reb), Annika Tufo (7 pts, 6 ast), Tilda Curran (6 pts, 7 reb) and Lila Wohlgemuth (6 pts, 3 ast, 4 stl) kept the Tartans moving offensively. Addie West (2pts, 3 stl, 4 blk) again played shutdown defense to seal it for St. Margaret's.

The Tartans will next take on St. Joseph's of Santa Maria in Round II of the Div. II 2026 CIF State Girls Basketball Championships. A win on Thursday would mark the senior class's 100th win over four years.

Go Tartans!
