The Kellogg Innovation Network (KIN) Global Summit is an international gathering of senior business leaders, entrepreneurs and technologists from more than 20 countries spanning six continents.

Several St. Margaret's students submitted interest and essays for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Katherine won the coveted scholarship to attend the conference and will speak in front of hundreds of business professionals, military leaders, policymakers and distinguished minds. The 2016 summit is themed "New Worlds" and will focus on how the dramatic and rapid changes we face every day are reshaping our businesses, cities and environment and redefining reality and even life itself.

“I am completely thrilled to have been given the opportunity to attend this year’s KIN Conference. The topic of the conference, New Worlds, is one that fascinates me because of my interest in how the intersection of science and technology with social awareness and other disciplines leads to improvements of the global community. I cannot wait to hear what international leaders, entrepreneurs, businessman, and innovators have to say about future societal and technological changes,” said Katherine.

The scholarship to attend KIN Global was brought to St. Margaret’s by KIN Co-founder Peter Bryant, who is also a St. Margaret’s parent. To apply, students submitted a 500-word essay on the topic "Change through Technology." Six entrants moved on to the finalist round and were challenged to give a five-minute, off-the-cuff presentation on the following topic: "You have been named President of a brand new country. What would you do first and why?" Students presented to Mr. Bryant, Upper School Principal Tony Jordan, Director of College Counseling Roland Allen and a graduate student from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

“Katherine was a standout through the process. She submitted an outstanding essay and had great poise and organization through the interview. She fully embraced this experience from start to finish. We know she will represent St. Margaret’s well, and be an influence at the conference,” said Mr. Jordan.

Last year, St. Margaret’s was the only secondary school chosen to attend the conference. Tyler Genevay, grade 11, spoke at the conference, and based on the successful experience, two other schools will be joining as participants this year.
