The school community came together in Pasternack Field House on Thursday for St. Margaret’s Day, an annual gathering celebrating the school’s namesake and the history of St. Margaret’s Episcopal School. The joyful ceremony included readings and prayers by St. Margaret’s chaplains and students, as well as performances by St. Margaret’s band, orchestra and choir students.

“I think if Saint Margaret and Father Sillers were with us today, they would be filled with joy and gratitude for God’s provision over St. Margaret’s,” Head of School Dr. Jeneen Graham said. “Our school was appropriately named for Scotland’s patron saint of education whom we honor today, St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland. Each year on St. Margaret’s Day, we pay tribute to Queen Margaret and her incredible life of learning, leading and serving.”

Dr. Graham took time to honor members of the professional community emeriti in attendance: Ingrid Andrews, Marilynn Boyle, Jill Fincher, Nancy Linaweaver, Lynn Ozonian, Jody Prichard and Susan Remsberg. In addition, Board Trustee Emeritus Stacey Nicholas was also recognized for her attendance.

St. Margaret’s Day was also an opportunity to share more about the school’s recent service-learning efforts—an integral part of St. Margaret’s mission. This year, St. Margaret’s is partnering with UNIDOS South OC for its All-School Service Learning Project. UNIDOS South OC works in San Juan Capistrano to cultivate a resident-led movement toward a thriving neighborhood as a reflection of God's love. The entire St. Margaret’s community will engage in work around the All-School Service Learning Project in the months ahead. 

There was also an update on the Moseley Venture to Serve, and three students shared the results of their service project funded by this school initiative. Applications for the Moseley Venture to Serve are now open.
