The Tartans had a successful day in Carpinteria this past weekend.
St. Margaret's track & field program put its best foot forward at the CIF-SS Prelims this past Saturday at Carpinteria High School.
The Tartans' exceptional performance in the girls' 4x100 secured a spot in the Div. IV finals with a thrilling display of speed and teamwork. They qualified with a season's best time of 49.77. Everett Capelle qualified in both the 1600m and 3200m events and is ranked in the top three in both races for CIF individual titles. Joyce Li matched Capelle, qualifying for the girls 1600m and 3200m finals. The Tartans also look to make some noise in the boys 4x400, qualifying for the championship with a 9th place finish.
In field events, top-three-ranked Ava Klausner had a flawless performance in the high jump, not missing a single attempt on the way to finals qualification sharing a No. 1 finish. Nick Holland smashed a personal record with a 9-06.00 7th place finish in the pole vault, sending him and fellow Tartan Leo Curran (5th place, 9-06.00) to the finals. Mark Cyr is looking to podium in the discus finals with a 6th place and qualifying finish.
"The goal every year is to try and surpass what you did the season before, and our team is well ahead of that this year," said head Coach Edgar Vazquez. "The exceptional thing about this team is that I've had the pleasure of watching them all grow up since they were in Middle School, so seeing them succeed at this stage fills my heart and I cannot help but smile. The team is really excited and eager to compete in the CIF Championship."
The Tartans travel to Moorpark High School for the CIF-SS Finals on Saturday, May 11.
