Lower School Honors Veterans With Special Chapel Ceremony

St. Margaret’s Lower School recognized Veterans Day on Thursday, moving the division’s traditional Thursday Chapel outdoors underneath the flagpoles adjacent to the Darcy Rice Center for the Arts.

 

The Veterans Day ceremony featured remarks by St. Margaret’s chaplain Father James Livingston, music by the Upper School and Middle School choir students and a pledge of allegiance led by Lower School student leaders.

 

Several veterans in the St. Margaret’s community were in attendance and recognized during the Chapel, with Father James encouraging students to express their gratitude.

 

Lower School students also conducted a candy drive this week, collecting 18 boxes of candy from the St. Margaret’s community. Each class wrote a letter to a service member and filled a bag with candy and a note, which will be sent to a unit overseas. The rest of the candy will be donated to the VA hospital in Long Beach.

 

Elsewhere, St. Margaret’s parent and Marine Corps veteran Chris Gideons spoke to Upper School students during Chapel about Veterans Day. Col. Gideons shared his reflections on more than 30 years of service in the military. “I am often thanked for my years of service to this country,” Col. Gideons said, “but my call to each of you is to do something that I get to thank you for.”

 

St. Margaret’s Middle School also devoted time to Veterans Day during Chapel this week.
