St. Margaret's Survives First Round Playoff Challenges
Tartan volleyball and lacrosse programs pick up wins in postseason action on Tuesday evening.
Girls Lacrosse
The Tartans matched up with Santiago High School in a first-round playoff battle on Tartan Field Tuesday afternoon. St. Margaret's got out to a quick lead on goals Niki Miles and Grace Karstetter before settling into a comfortable 18-5 win over the visitors. The Tartans were led by Niki Miles (6g, 1a), Maddie Barkate (3g, 5a) and Grace Karstetter (2g, 2a).
St. Margaret's will play south county rival San Clemente at home at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 in the quarterfinal round.
Boys Volleyball
St. Margaret's downed Warren High School 3-1 with sets of 25-15, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22 on Tuesday evening in Pasternack Field House. The Tartans were led by Ethan Hill (18 kills, .324 hit percentage), Andrew Moore (9 kills, .286 hit percentage) and Lewis Smith (9 Kills, .316 hit percentage) in the win.
St. Margaret's will travel to take on Foothill High School at 6 p.m. on May 2 in the second round.
Boys Lacrosse
It took the Tartans till the last half of the third quarter to pull away from a tenacious Beckman Patriot team for a final score of 13-9, after a back and forth first half. At one point the Patriots tied the game at 6-6 before St. Margaret's pulled away at the end of three periods.
The Tartans were led by Koa Todd (3g, 2a), John Culley (2g, 1a) and Kevin Groeninger (3g, 3a). Groeninger's three assists put him at 195 career assists and at the top of California record books, surpassing the previous assist mark of 192.
St. Margaret's will host Newport Harbor in the quarterfinals on May 2 at 7 p.m.
