St. Margaret's Defense Key in 43-7 Rout of The Bishop's School

The Tartan defense added two scores to help top the Knights on the road.
St. Margaret's received another stellar effort from the defensive unit in a 43-7 victory over CIF San Diego opponent The Bishop's School of La Jolla. The Tartan defense has only allowed 29 total points over five games this season so far. Saturday's performance was another masterclass in smothering defensive pressure.

Led by linebacker Koa Todd's six tackles, four assists, one sack and one tackle for loss, the Tartan defense was unflappable all evening. Langston Sholl added four tackles, three assists, a sack and a tackle for a loss while Jack Young added a late defensive score with an interception followed by a 25-yard return for a touchdown. John Clarey recorded a safety in the win.

Offensively, St. Margaret's dominated the line of scrimmage, running and passing at will. Quarterback James Mott was 7/18 for 181 yards, slinging three touchdowns to Koa Todd (3/71), Alex Lanham (2/52), and Stuart Pollard (1/42). On the ground, Lanham and a host of backfield mates combined for 125 yards with Matt Stevenson (9/45) breaking a touchdown.

St. Margaret's special teams also contributed with a 59-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Alex Lanham after the defensive safety. Kicker Chris Vartanian was six for six on PATs with six touchbacks and two 50-yard punts. Sean Sullivan had a blocked field goal for the Tartans.

The 4-1 Tartans return to Tartan Field to face 3-2 Bishop Diego on Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m.
