St. Margaret’s opened the school year and welcomed 1,235 students during an all-school opening ceremony attended by the student body, faculty, staff and many parents.

The 2018-2019 student body includes 193 new students from 166 new families. There are 56 new students with siblings already here, and the new students includes four new sets of twins.

During his remarks, Head of School Will Moseley quoted Corinthians 13:13 as part of the school year’s first lesson: “So now faith, hope and love abide, these three, but the greatest of these is love.”

“Your homework assignment for this year for our community is to love each other well each and every day,” he then said.

Mr. Moseley also recognized important milestone classes, including the Class of 2033 enrolling in preschool this year, the Class of 2026 in grade 5, the Class of 2023 in Grade 8, and the seniors in the Class of 2019, who received a rousing ovation during their last all-school opening ceremony.

Mr. Moseley then expanded on three school-wide goals that align with the school’s mission.
  • The first goal, under Learning, involves learning with a purpose, asking not just what to learn but why. “We will explore interdisciplinary connections to engage ourselves and illustrate the context and relevance of academic content,” he said.
  • The second goal, under Leadership, involves leading with a purpose. Specifically, the school will prioritize health and wellness this school year, developing new programs to support nutrition, fitness, rest, emotional and spiritual well-being, mindfulness and critical life skills.
  • The third goal, under Service, involves serving with purpose: Re-thinking service learning to be experiential, fostering personal exploration, leadership and involvement with outside communities, while building cultural-competency skills through empathy and understanding.
