St. Margaret’s Receives 18 ‘Cappies’ Nominations, Including Best Musical

Students were nominated for their work in the fall play Romeo and Juliet and the spring musical The Drowsy Chaperone.
Upper School students received a total of 18 nominations for the upcoming Cappies awards, for their work in the fall play Romeo and Juliet and the spring musical The Drowsy Chaperone.

In addition to individual nominations, the Upper School production of The Drowsy Chaperone was nominated for Best Musical, St. Margaret’s was nominated for best stage crew in a musical (also for The Drowsy Chaperone), and the St. Margaret’s Cappies critics were nominated for the best Critics Team in Orange County.

Among those receiving multiple nominations were Jake Kuljis (comic actor in a play, lead actor in a musical), Anneka Miller (lead actress in a musical, supporting actress in a play), Jaden Cloobeck (male dancer, supporting actor in a play) and Caroline Ullem (marketing and publicity in a play, sophomore critic).

The Critics and Awards Program (Cappies) is a national student-driven writing and awards program that trains and recognizes high school performing arts and journalism students to be expert writers, critical thinkers and leaders. In addition to attending productions around Orange County and writing reviews for potential publication, Cappies critics also collaborate to choose winners for the county’s Cappies awards, presented during a black-tie gala.

This year’s Cappies gala will take place on May 20 at The Grove in Anaheim. A reception for nominees will be held at St. Margaret’s next Tuesday, May 15.

Congratulations to all the nominees!
