PHOTOS: Middle School Hosts Head Start Families for Festive Morning of Activities

The morning was an opportunity for the Head Start community and the St. Margaret’s community to come together at the start of the holiday season for food and fun, and to connect on a personal level and build relationships with each other.
St. Margaret’s Middle School welcomed more than 155 visitors to campus last week for a student-led celebration that featured breakfast, a carnival and several performances.

The guests are part of San Juan Capistrano Head Start, a comprehensive child development program designed to meet the educational, emotional, social, health and nutritional needs of children and families. The morning was an opportunity for the Head Start community and the St. Margaret’s community to come together at the start of the holiday season for food and fun, and to connect on a personal level and build relationships with each other.

Each Middle School grade played a different role in organizing the morning activities. Grade 6 students set up the breakfast in the Middle School courtyard, while Grade 7 students conceptualized and ran a carnival along the promenade and in Campaigne Center. Grade 8 students served as hosts, escorting the guests around campus to the various activities that were taking place.

The entire effort is part of the Middle School’s support of Head Start families, and after the morning activities the students went shopping for Christmas gifts for them and returned to St. Margaret’s to wrap the presents. Students also created blankets to be given to Head Start students along with the gifts.
