Students in the Class of 2016 are making some tough decisions this time of year: the college admission season. In addition to the College Counseling Office helping students find college environments which best fit their unique interests and talents, representatives from elite colleges and universities from around the world have visited campus to meet with students.

This school year, St. Margaret’s has welcomed admission officers from more than 150 colleges and universities including Denison University, Villanova University, Emory University, Northeastern University, Davidson College, Barnard College, Dickinson College, New York University, Georgetown University, University of Norte Dame, Dartmouth College and new visitors to campus: University of Glasgow, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Yale University, University of Kansas and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Admission officers visit campus to talk to students about what sets their institution apart and discuss specifics about the admission process. They interact with students in a small group setting to learn more about them. This provides context when the admission officers read a student’s application.

“This year’s class of 109 students are casting a wide net and applying to colleges all over the world that really fit who they are and what they are looking for,” said Associate Director of College Counseling Amy Warren. “Seniors have already applied to more different colleges than last year’s class and I expect that number to increase as we get closer to the January admission deadline.”

To date, students have submitted 1,025 applications to 223 colleges.
