St. Margaret’s Celebrates Nowruz with Haftseen Arrangements and Traditional Activities

The holiday is also known as Persian New Year, and the history and traditions of the holiday were shared with the St. Margaret’s community this week.
Nowruz, which means “New Day,” marking the first day of spring and considered the beginning of the new year by more than 300 million people worldwide, was celebrated at St. Margaret’s this week.

The holiday is also known as Persian New Year, and the history and traditions of the holiday were shared with the St. Margaret’s community this week. There were haftseen tables set up in the Lower School library, Middle School offices, and Upper School Tartan Center. This gave access to all students at the school, since both Early School and Lower School students use the Lower School library. In addition, the Upper School students shared a homily in the chapel.

In the Upper School, student leadership of the Middle Eastern and Desi Affinity Group collaborated with the affinity group to set up a Tartan Center haftseen to share more information behind the holiday to their peers.

Nowruz is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox. According to the United Nations, the holiday promotes values of peace and solidarity between generations and within families as well as reconciliation and neighborliness, thus contributing to cultural diversity and friendship among peoples and different communities. Special thanks to all the St. Margaret’s parents who helped share about Nowruz and set up haftseen tables!
