St. Margaret's Continues to Roll Through Local Tournaments
The Tartans will play for basketball tournament titles this weekend.
The Tartan basketball programs look to bring home championship awards this weekend as their respective tournaments wrap up.
Boys Basketball
St. Margaret's received clutch performances from its players in a 69-31 win over Mesrobian High Thursday evening in the Calvary Chapel Tournament. This followed an 82-53 win against Monrovia on Monday and a close 48-45 win against Mary Star of the Sea on Wednesday that saw Cameron Danz secure the win with a bucket at the buzzer.
Matthew Nordstrom led with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Cameron Danz had 13 points. Mark Cyr contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds in the win.
"Last night, we handled business professionally to guarantee our spot in the final on Friday," said head coach Chris Nordstrom.
The undefeated in pool play Tartans will face Whitney High School in the championship final this evening at 7:30 p.m.
Girls Basketball
The Tartans coasted to a 58-44 win against El Toro High School Thursday to secure a spot in the Pacifica Tournament Championship round.
The Tartans again relied upon their defensive strengths, holding an opponent to 9 points in the first half for the second consecutive game. St. Margaret's quickly jumped out to a 33-point lead late in the third period and never looked back. Annika Tufo notched 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals to lead the Tartans with Harper Gideons (12 pts, 8 rebounds, 4 steals) and Taylor Francois (8 pts, 9 rebounds) pacing the team.
The CIF Div. IIIA No. 7 Tartans will take on No. 2 Dana Hills in the final at Pacifica High School on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
