St. Margaret's Sinks Saddleback 42-3

The Tartans improved to 4-1 in league with the win.
St. Margaret's football program continued its run through league opponents Friday, downing Saddleback High School 42-3. The Tartans are now 4-1 in Orange Coast League play, losing only to Santa Ana 49-36 on Sept. 14.

Max Ruff threw for three touchdowns and ran for one while amassing 136 yards through the air. Receivers Luke Newman (2 catches, 87 yds, 2 TD) and Russell Frye (1 catch, 31 yds, 1 TD) benefited from Ruff's accuracy all evening. Running back Matt Arena added a touchdown on a 38-yard run early in the game. Jumping out to an early lead allowed some younger Tartans to get in on the offensive action with freshman quarterback Charlie Allen going 8 for 12 and tallying 100 yards in the air. Jack Kleinhanzl had 4 catches for 49 yards and Sam Ludlum notched three catches for 23 yards.

Defensively, the Tartans maintained a stifling presence, allowing the Roadrunners only 13 yards rushing on the night. Chase Springer led with six tackles, while Reese Ballard followed closely behind with five. Jack Clausner was a terror in the backfield, tallying two sacks, with Springer adding one. Ballard also brought down an interception, matching Drew Otto and Sam Ludlum with one a piece.

Kickers Nathaniel Kim and Marisol Guillena were perfect on PATs, with Kim going 2/2 and Guillena going 4/4 from the mark.

The Tartans look to close out league play facing CC Santa Ana at home on Friday, Oct. 27.
