Tartan Girls Tennis Rely on Team Effort to Defeat Crean Lutheran

St. Margaret's bested the Saints 10-8 Thursday.
St. Margaret's girls tennis team picked up its first win of the season, downing Crean Lutheran 10-8 Thursday at Saddleback College.

The Tartans needed strong performances from the entire team to put the Saints away and got it from Angela Liu, who notched three singles set wins (6-3, 6-1, 6-1). The doubles team of Alexa Edwards/Caitlin Roberts won all three doubles sets (6-3, 7-5, and 6-3), while the doubles team of Rylee Carlson/Emily Guerinot provided the match-clinching set win with a 7-5 win in the 3rd round.

"It is always nice to get the first win on the board,” said head coach Scott Lipsky. “The girls competed well in warm conditions and played better as the match went on. We have two more non-league matches next week that will be a good test for the team as we head into league play."

The 1-1 Tartans will next take on non-league opponent Capistrano Valley High School at Saddleback on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m.
