Tartan Surf Team Battles Tough Conditions at Huntington Beach

8-10 foot waves made for some exciting competition last weekend.
The Tartan surf program took on a skilled opponent and Mother Nature this past weekend in Scholastic Surf Series competition at Goldenwest in Huntington Beach. Erratic weather patterns produced turbulent conditions with 8-10 foot swells, contributing to some of the most challenging surf environments seen during a local school-age contest.

Michael Cuda turned in a gritty performance, finishing second in mens longboard, with Braden Nock, Luke Newman, Ry O'Hill, Jack Tomlinson, Tyler Mears and Blake Scheel also braving the elements in their respective events. On the girls side, Annika Tufo bagged a sixth-place finish in womens longboard while Heidi Tufo battled it out in her competitive shortboard heats. Sara Jenkins brought home a third-place award for St. Margaret’s in the co-ed bodyboard event.

The Tartans will return to the water to continue the Scholastic Surf Series on February 5 at the San Clemente Pier.

Go Tartans!
