Tartan Swimming & Diving Teams Excel at League Championships

St. Margaret's wrapped up league competition on Tuesday afternoon.
St. Margaret's swim program netted a girls swim league championship Tuesday afternoon, breaking a 14-year dry spell for the Tartans. The Tartan swimmers finished first with 425 points in competition against league opponents The Webb Schools (369 pts.) and Sage Hill School (350 pts.).
 
The Tartans were led by champions Zoe Reynolds (200 IM and 500 freestyle, swimmer of the meet, CIF Qualifier), Amelia Kang (100 backstroke, CIF Qualifier), Heidi Tufo (100 breaststroke). The girls relay teams also turned in impressive results with the 200 medley relay team of Heidi Tufo, Amelia Kang, Zoey Reynolds and Julia Olosky finishing second, while the 200 freestyle team of Zoe Reynolds, Olivia Ostlund, Rainbow Li and Heidi Tufo, and 400 freestyle relay team of Rainbow Li, Claire Kim, Amelia Kang and Julia Olosky also finished second. The Tartan 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams and Heidi Tufo (100 butterfly) are qualifiers with CIF consideration times.

Divers Kate Taylor and Celeste Taylor finished second and third respectively and moved on to the CIF Div. III Diving Championships held on Thursday, May 20.
 
Seniors Justina Brandt, Claire Kim and CeCe Xu were honored by the program and closed their St. Margaret’s swimming career in style volunteering to swim the last 400 free-relay exhibition, celebrating with one last swim.
 
On the boys side, Daneel Polakoff was the 100 backstroke champion and named swimmer of the meet. The 200 medley relay team of Daneel Polakoff, Charlie Whiting, Matthew Farhadian and Levon Alayanakian finished second, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Daneel Polakoff, Charlie Whiting, Alejandro Turnbull, Levon Alayanakian finished third.
 
Daneel Polakoff automatically qualified for the CIF postseason in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Charlie Whiting has made consideration times in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle.
 
Next up for the Tartans are the CIF swimming championships on Saturday, May 29 at Santa Margarita Catholic High School.
