The Tartans broke through a deadlock with a Megan Kenner score with about 12 minutes remaining in the game, and St. Margaret’s downed visiting Pasadena Poly 2-1 in CIF first-round action on Tartan field Wednesday afternoon. Kenner slotted the game-winner on an arching 16-yard shot over the Pasadena keeper.

Julia Olosky scored the first goal after an overlapping run and deft inside cut in the box to put the Tartans up early before Pasadena tied it with 25 minutes left in the game. Goalkeeper Riley Long kept the Panthers at bay behind a strong Tartan defensive effort.

"Our staff is so proud of the team and the work they have put in the weight room, field and classroom. They fight until the end and that perseverance showed in yesterday's match against Poly," said head coach Jennifer Anderson-Hammond. "Julia Olosky and Megan Kenner came up with big-time goals and our backline of Bryce Chan, Caroline Gunderson, Liv Taylor, Taylor Nock and Alexis Bullock was able to shut down Poly's dangerous forwards."

St. Margaret's will next face Santa Paula at home in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. IV Playoffs on Friday, May 14.

Girls Tennis

St. Margaret's defeated Mark Keppell High School 9(69)-9(65) behind the clutch doubles play of Rori Ghahreman and Sophia Karahalios whose 6-3 win put the Tartans over the top.

Seychelle Balog continued to dominate the court with three straight wins, while Tina Mai and Breanna Arrojo contributed wins in two singles sets each.

"It was a total team effort yesterday. The match was tied 9-9 and came down to total games won. I have been telling the girls all season to fight for each game no matter what the score is, and everyone came up with some important game wins that helped us come out on top in this close match," said head coach Scott Lipsky. "We are looking forward to another challenge on Friday."
