Tartans Roll, Gear up For Playoff Action

St. Margaret's boys lacrosse, boys basketball and girls soccer put together decisive wins Wednesday evening.
Boys Lacrosse

The Tartans jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the half, ultimately downing Los Alamitos High School 18-4 in non-league action Wednesday night. St. Margaret's offensive trio of Matt Groeninger (4g, 2a), Riley Chester (4g, 2a) and Will Stahl (4g, 1a) kept the Tartans in the driver's seat all evening.

Faceoff man Bobby Springer kept possession firmly in the Tartans' hands, going 21/24 at the X, while netminder Sebastian Chicas recorded six saves in the win. Tyler Matthews picked up a team-high seven groundballs.

"I thought our guys played hard, and we just dominated the game from start to finish. Bobby Springer was awesome at the faceoff X, and I'm proud of how hard he has worked throughout the season to get better," said head coach Brian Kelly. "We have a quick turnaround and hope to finish the week strong vs. Santa Margarita."

The Tartans will face Santa Margarita Catholic High School on Tartan Field on Friday, May 7 at 4 p.m.

Girls Soccer

Bryce Chan slotted home the winning score on an assist by Julia Olosky as the Tartans defeated Pacifica Christian OC 1-0 Wednesday evening. The win keeps St. Margaret's undefeated in league, with the Tartans not conceding a goal during league play.

Goalkeepers Ava Lentz and Riley Long split duties and recorded the shutout.

"Pacifica Christian tried to frustrate us by sitting in, but the team stayed patient and disciplined and found a way to get the goal and manage the remainder of the game. I'm so proud of how these student-athletes have handled this year with everything they have on their plates," said head coach Jennifer Anderson-Hammond. "We are now focusing on post-season play and can't wait to get started."

Boys Basketball

The Tartans traveled to Claremont and came home with a 69-39 win Wednesday evening. Charlie Wohlgemuth (19 pts.) and Dylan Cormac (15 pts.) led for St. Margaret's.

St. Margaret's will next tip-off against CVCS on the road on Friday, May 7 at 4:30 p.m.
