Tartan Soccer, Surf and Tennis Teams Battle as Athletic Schedules Ramp Up

The Tartans proved their mettle in the water, on the court and the pitch this week.
Surfing
 
St. Margaret's faced off against JSerra this past Sunday at Golden West, Huntington Beach, surfing a close match through the final heats. Although the Lions nudged out the Tartans 49-41, St. Margaret's represented well in the water.
 
Benton Barlow had a big day for the Tartans, finishing in second place in the longboard division, while Charlie Denham won his semifinal heat and finished fifth overall in shortboard. Tyler Mears advanced to the longboard finals, marking his second contest of doing so. Kate Cruse had a strong performance in the longboard with a fifth-place finish, with Eli Bernstein capturing fourth place in both the longboard and shortboard. The Tartans were also supported by a raft of surfers picking up points on the day; Heidi Tufo, Audrey Weiss, Minka Martinez, Blake Sheel, Jonah Mackenzie, John Ullem and Emma Bernstein all had a strong day in the water.
 
Girls Soccer
 
The Tartans opened the 2021 campaign with a decisive 2-0 win over Crean Lutheran on March 9. Bryce Chan put St. Margaret's up 1-0 early in the second half, finishing on a sharp assist from Julia Olosky. The Tartans capitalized on a Crean Lutheran miscue shortly after on a Liesel Blau goal assisted by Avery Ainsworth. The Tartan defense kept the Saints at bay all afternoon to seal the win.
 
St. Margaret's returns to play this Friday, March 12, against Orange Lutheran at Tartan Field. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
 
Girls Tennis
 
St. Margaret's picked up a 12-6 league victory against Webb on Wednesday, improving to 1-0 in league play. The Tartans won eight of nine singles sets played with Seychelle Balog, Tina Mai and Nadia Momtaz sweeping their singles sets. MK Hogan contributed to the Tartan score with a single set win.
 
The Tartans will match up next against Tarbut V'Torah this Thursday at the OC Great Park.

The Tartans moved to 2-0 in league play with a 14-4 win over Tarbut V'Torah on Thursday. Seychelle Balog and Grace Nolet won all their single sets with Tina Mai going two out of three. Anabel Thiel and Great Wagner dominated in doubles play, winning all three sets.
