Upper School Students Work With The Social Institute to Promote Positive Technology Use

Two students worked with the organization to share their voice and insights into social media and technology use.
St. Margaret’s ongoing partnership with The Social Institute to educate and empower students to have positive relationships with social media and technology has led to two Upper School students working with the organization to share their voice and insights.

Mari Edler, a sophomore, recently served as an ambassador with The Social Institute, working with other student leaders from around the country to give feedback on lessons and create mentor videos to be featured one of the organization’s live lessons. Mari’s video focused on educating fellow students on social-media company strategies and the ultimate goal of tech companies in engagement tools such as the “Like” button.

“Knowing social media companies’ goals allows us as students to be more aware of the dilemmas that social media presents in our lives and helps us to make our own decisions accordingly,” Mari said in the video.

In addition, Upper School senior Ryan Krall worked as an intern for The Social Institute, helping to advance the organization’s goal of empowering students to navigate their social world—social media and technology—to fuel their health, happiness and future success.

St. Margaret’s first partnered with The Social Institute in 2018 to educate students on digital citizenship and relationship with technology. Recently, The Social Institute added a new component to the program called #WinAtSocial Live, which focuses on current events and positive healthy ways to engage in discussion and use social media to responsibly gather and share information.
