Middle School Service Class Partners With Special Camp

The grade 7 students will have frequent virtual gatherings with campers throughout the semester as a way to connect and socialize.
St. Margaret’s grade 7 service class is a semester-long elective that aims to create experiences with other members of the school community through service.

This semester the class has partnered with Special Camp, the St. Margaret’s summer camp program for children, teens, and young adults with disabilities. The Middle School students will have frequent virtual gatherings with campers throughout the semester as a way to connect and socialize.

The partnership began with a cultural competency workshop with the Middle School students, in which the students met with Special Camp Executive Director Lindsay Eres and discussed the needs of people with disabilities and how the students can best serve Special Camp participants this semester. That led to the first Zoom meetup, where several campers met with the students for a fun meeting that concluded with a virtual dance party.

The grade 7 service class, taught by Middle School Director of Community Life Kylie Middlebrook, will meet monthly with Special Camp throughout the semester.
