Tartan Surf Program Shines as Final Results Released

The Tartans had a big winter in the water with top finishes in the Scholastic Surf Series.
St. Margaret's surf team produced a strong showing during this past winter's Scholastic Surf Series competition and the results are in this week to prove it. Overall, the Tartans finished No. 2 behind Laguna Beach with a 3-0 record and 117 points on the season. A No. 1 placing in the mens longboard competition kept the Tartans close to the top of the pack all winter.

Individually, St. Margaret's was led in the mens shortboard division by No. 1 Jake Vandenburg (5720 pts.) and No. 5 Aiden Rooney (3142 pts.). In the mens longboard, No. 1 Andrew McAleer (3460 pts.) and No. 4 Michael Cuda (2886 pts.) led the way. In the co-ed bodyboard St. Margaret’s was paced by No. 1 Eli Bernstein (4640 pts.). On the girls side, The Tartans received stellar performances by Kennedy Barlow with 2680 pts. in shortboard and 3180 pts. in longboard.

"This team has proven to be resilient and dedicated! I am so proud of this group of surfers! To take overall second place, just behind Laguna Beach with only a six-point difference demonstrates their versatility and strength," said head coach Mick Vollmer. "Our team has overcome many challenges this season, but they have never lost their stoke for one another and their sport! They truly are dynamic group that thrive together."
