Team email 11/17/19

Hi Team, welcome to SMES Surf Season 2019 / 2020, woohoo!

Hope you all had a chance to surf today…it was so fun, beautiful out, and glassy all day!

This week marks the “official start” of our season and hopefully you are also aware that this Sunday, November 24th we have our second contest at San Clemente Pier. (Hayden, Riley, Jake can you bring snacks/drinks//lunches? Headcount to come...)

As of right now, the SSS has not posted who we will be surfing against or at what time we will start. Sorry about that, but that’s how it goes…haha! Keep an eye on their website ( https://surfsss.org/2019-20-contest-schedule-results/ ) and know that I'll send out another email later this week when the details become available.

Here's the practice/contest plan for this week:

  • Monday: Salt Creek 4:00pm - sunset, Sadly, the sun sets early at about 5:00/5:15 these days... (Reminder: as mentioned in the team meeting earlier this year, PLEASE make sure you check IN & check OUT with me or Coach Vollmer for every practice.
  • Tuesday: Salt Creek, 4:00pm - sunset
  • Wednesday: OFF, looks like a rainy/stormy day (Hard to believe since today was so beautiful!)
  • Thursday: OFF, another possible rainy/stormy day… (?)
  • Friday: San Clemente Pier 4:00 - sunset (north side Pier for check in & check out)
  • Saturday: OFF, or surf where you want!! (Perhaps the contest site again?)
  • Sunday: Contest Day at SC Pier!! (More info coming when I get it…)

Lastly, all surfers, please reply to this email and number off to let me know
1) if you can make the three practices this week,
2) if you can make the contest this Sunday,
3) which boards (short, long, bodyboard) you are open & willing to compete on. (I'll email out the official heat sheet with start times later in the week too!)
4) if you think you will need a ride to the contest or back to school after the contest on the Surf Van (departure time is TBA)

As we talked about in our team meeting a few weeks ago, please honor your commitment to The Team and schedule all tutoring, dinners with friends, trips, etc for when practices are over, or on our days off.

Thanks so much for your commitment to Surf Team, we're going to have great year!!

Gracias & aloha,
Sr.
