St. Margaret’s senior Elyse Bryant was named a finalist in dance for the 2019 Artist of the Year honors by OC Varsity Arts, one of five Tartans who were recognized as finalists or semifinalist by the publication.

Elyse was one of four finalists out of 87 dance nominees for the annual recognition of talented artists in Orange County. She was named world/cultural dance artist of the year, which qualified her as a finalist in the overall dance category.

“Not only is Elyse a spectacular Irish dancer, she is on the honor roll at St. Margaret’s and offers her time at a senior residential center. She has brought Irish dance to light in our community, which has opened the door to experiences in world dance at our school,” St. Margaret’s Director of Dance Kirsten Harvey said during the nomination process.

St. Margaret’s had four other artists honored as semifinalists by OC Varsity Arts. In addition to Elyse, senior Kayla Leahy was recognized as a semifinalist in dance while senior Isabella Blount, junior Campbell Case and junior Avery Clarke were all recognized as semifinalists in 3D art.
As semifinalists, the five Tartans were interviewed by a panel of distinguished artistic professionals, and conducted a live presentation and a question-and-answer session.

You can view all the talented artists at the Orange County Register’s Varsity Arts section.
