Espen Garner
St. Margaret’s sophomore Espen Garner has been named a 2018-2019 Dean’s List Finalist by FIRST, a nonprofit that inspires young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators. Espen is team captain for St. Margaret’s robotics team, which competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge program.

As a finalist, Espen is invited to the FIRST Championship in Houston next month, where 10 students from across the U.S. will be named 2019 FIRST Tech Challenge Dean’s List Award winners.

Parisa Khashayar
St. Margaret’s freshman Parisa Khashayar has been featured in the March 2019 issue of MagPi, the official Raspberry Pi magazine. Parisa is spotlighted as a project showcase for her firefighter monitoring system, which she began working on in Middle School as part of St. Margaret’s Tartan Tank entrepreneurial unit.

Her idea earned her the Innovation Prize in last year’s Tartan Tank competition, as well as the Jr. Sweepstakes Prize at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair and recognition in the Broadcom MASTERS program. She also was invited to spend the summer at the University of California, Irvine’s prestigious Wayfinder Incubator to develop her idea alongside other innovators.

The MagPi article explains how Parisa came up with the concept and began working on her product, which monitors a firefighter’s condition while they are on duty. It also details her plans for further developing her idea.
