St. Margaret's football program travelled to Pasadena last week and came away with a 35-27 non-league win over La Salle College Prep.
Tartan running back Sam Orellana opened the scoring for St. Margaret's in the second quarter with a 4-yard touchdown plunge. Orellana would finish the night with 2 rushing touchdowns and 81 yards on 15 carries.
St. Margaret's trailed 19-14 at the half before quarterback Kai Letcher marched the Tartans down the field and capped the drive with a 25-yard TD strike to Jack Klausner to give the Tartans the lead. Letcher again brought the Tartans back in the fourth, keeping the ball and driving for a 1-yard touchdown to put St. Margaret's up 28-27 mid-way through the final frame.
La Salle threatened late, but a key fumble recovery by Sebastian Salazar set up an Orellana touchdown with about 5 minutes left to play. The Tartans held on to the 35-27 lead with a spectacular goal line stand in the dying minutes of the game.
The 2-0 Tartans will next face the Barons of Fountain Valley High School on Tartan Field, Friday, September 12, at 7:00 p.m.
