This marks the second time Weng has made the cut at the Southern California Golf Association tournament.
St. Margaret’s senior Annie Weng has qualified for the SCGA Championship, one step from the California high school state championship.
Weng shot a 73 (+1) at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach on Nov. 5, tying for 17th in a field of 137 of the Southern Section’s top golfers and advancing outright to earn one of the 28 individual qualifying spots. It is her second trip to the SCGA Championship, making her the first Tartan in decades to do it twice.
Weng’s postseason also included a 5th-place finish at the Pacific Coast League finals and a tie for 10th at the CIF-SS Northern Regional, where she shot an even-par 70. She has played in the qualifier in all four of her seasons at St. Margaret’s and has been a team captain since her sophomore year.
“Annie is one of the finest golfers this school has ever had,” said head coach Danny Solarz. “Making the SCGA Championship once is a major accomplishment, and doing it twice, against the best players in Southern California, shows just how special her game is.”
Weng will compete at the Championship on Thursday, Nov. 12, at Los Serranos Golf Club on the North Course.
