Kindergarten Students Grow Community Through Pumpkin-Themed Service Learning

Kindergarten students brought the spirit of giving to the Upper School through a seasonal service-learning project that combined creativity, kindness, and meaningful connections across campus.

As part of their Global Goal focus on Good Health and Well-Being, students explored the importance of healthy habits and community during a visit to Tanaka Farm. They tasted fresh vegetables, learned about nutritious foods, and experienced firsthand the process of harvesting produce. The hands-on experience connected classroom learning in math and science to everyday life while encouraging students to make healthy food choices.

The learning continued on St. Margaret’s campus, where students participated in a special service-learning project centered on pumpkin picking, decorating, and giving. Each student selected a pumpkin to transform it into a festive creation to share with Upper School students. Through decorating their pumpkins and preparing them for delivery, kindergarteners discovered how a thoughtful gesture can brighten someone’s day and strengthen connections across grade levels.

“Through this simple gesture, kindergarteners had the opportunity to spread holiday cheer while building connections with older students and contributing to a shared school tradition,” said Kindergarten teacher Gabriela Lopez.
