Tartans Sprint Past Aztecs 34-14

St. Margaret's football took on Esperanza Thursday night.
St. Margaret's football program picked up an essential league win Thursday, downing Esperanza High School 34-14 on the road Thursday evening.
 
Jake Kleinhanzl (8 rec, 188 yds, 3 TD) again provided the Tartans with an aerial assault, hauling in three touchdown passes from quarterback Kai Letcher (13 for 19, 240 yds, 3 TD).
 
The Tartans exploded with 21 points in the second quarter after a scoreless opening frame. Running back Sam Orellana (25 car, 120 yds, 2 TD) opened the game up with a 6-yard touchdown run as the Tartans took control and never looked back.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, the Tartans were a smothering presence, with Pierce Fournier recording a team-high 16 tackles in the win. Sawyer Collins and Aidan Lavender combined for 3 sacks, while Graham Holcomb brought down an interception for the Tartans.
 
St. Margaret's (6-2) faces an important league challenge on Oct. 30 as Kappa League No. 1 Fullerton High (6-2) travels to Tartan Field for a showdown with postseason implications.
