Tartan Football Outlasts Fountain Valley 14-7

St. Margaret's and the Barons fought to a tight finish.
The Tartan football program beat Fountain Valley High School 14-7 in a close battle Thursday evening. The win moves St. Margaret's to 3-0 on the season.

The Barons got on the scoreboard first early in the first quarter and held on to a 7-0 lead for two quarters before the Tartans finally struck back with an 84-yard touchdown strike from Kai Letcher (11/20, 263 yds, 2 TD) to Jack Kleinhanzl (4 rec, 179 yds, 2 TD) midway through the third quarter. Fountain Valley stopped the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt to hold the Tartans to 6 points.

Both teams traded possessions before Letcher again found Kleinhanzl on another long pass for a score. Sammy Grant-Lewis (4 rec, 66 yds) hauled in the 2-point conversion attempt to put St. Margaret's up 14-7 and sealed the win.

Defensively, Costa Canelos led with 9 total tackles while Sawyer Collins (4 tackles) and Graham Holcomb (8 tackles) each had a sack. Charlie Allen notched an interception in the second quarter.

St. Margaret's next faces cross-town rival Capistrano Valley Christian at home on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
