Tartans Triumph in Flag Football Season Opener

St. Margaret's girls' flag football made history with a 39-0 season-opening victory over Marina High School, marking the program's first-ever win this past Saturday.

 

Aiyanna Brown had a day for the Tartans, pulling in 7 catches for 128 yards and a 2-point conversion while adding 3 flag pulls, 2 passes broken up, 1 interception, and a 12-yard punt return. Ella Chin controlled the offense, going 19 for 28 with 228 yards and 4 passing touchdowns to lead the Tartans past the Vikings.

 

Also contributing to the one-sided win: Lola Berutich (4 catches, 51 yds, 2 TD, 6 flag pulls), Gia Fournier (4 catches, 22 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT return for TD, 1 pass broken up, 5 flag pulls), Zoe Lauderdale (1 catch, 4 yards, 1TD, 1 sack, 2 flag pulls, 1 pass broekn up, 12 yard punt return) and Nina Huynh (2 catches, 18 yards, 1 INT return for TD, 5 flag pulls).

 

"For our first game in program history, I couldn't be more proud of how our girls competed. We were missing a number of players, and the majority of our roster are freshmen playing in their first high school game. They still came out focused, disciplined, and ready to play," said head coach Bryan Fournier. "The 39–0 score is exciting, but what really stood out to me was the way they supported each other and represented this new program. This is a great start, but it's only the beginning."

 

The Tartans will next compete in the Chargers Invitational August 14-15.
