St. Margaret's Names John Gabriel as Girls Lacrosse Head Coach

Gabriel brings a wealth of lacrosse experience to the role.
St. Margaret's is proud to announce the appointment of John Gabriel as head coach of the Tartan girls lacrosse program.

Gabriel was most recently the head coach of the boys varsity lacrosse team at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach. The Jackrabbits were Moore League Champions in 2025, with Gabriel being named Moore League Coach of the Year for his efforts. Prior to his stint at Long Beach Poly, Gabriel was an assistant at Whittier College from 2013 to 2017.

Gabriel is currently the President and a head coach at Beach Cities Lacrosse Club, where he directs and manages five youth teams and summer day camps for boys and girls ages 5-16.

Gabriel's collegiate lacrosse playing experience at NCAA Div. III New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, netted a wealth of accolades as he was named a 2011 USILA All-American, 2011 TCCC Offensive Player of the Year, 2011 TCCC First Team All-Conference, 2011 All-ECAC Team and 2010 TCCC All-Conference Honorable Mention. Gabriel also competed for the Pilgrims' soccer program as a two-year starting defenseman and earned a 2010 Rookie of the Year award.

"I could not be more excited to be joining the amazing staff at St. Margaret's this coming fall," said coach Gabriel. "With such a rich history of athletics and specifically lacrosse, I am ready to jump right in and share my knowledge of teaching, athletics and lifelong wellness."

At St. Margaret's, Gabriel will serve as head girls lacrosse coach at the Upper School and Middle School levels and as a personal fitness and wellness teacher in the Lower School. Gabriel holds a Master of Arts in Education from Whittier College and a B.A. in Physical Education from New England College.

"We are thrilled to announce John Gabriel as our new head girls lacrosse coach. John brings a championship-level resume, having recently been selected as the Moore League coach of the year. His club affiliation with Beach Cities Lacrosse has been a critical part of his coed development of the game throughout the greater Long Beach area," said St. Margaret's Director of Athletics Dan O'Shea. "We welcome John and his leadership skills to this very important program here on campus that has such a rich history of success."
