Jessica Liu and Sebastian Salazar Named OCADA Student Athletes of Character

The two Tartans were honored on Jan. 26 at Servite High School.
Jessica Liu and Sebastian Salazar were named Orange County Athletic Directors Association Student Athletes of Character during a ceremony this week. The award recognizes high school student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship, leadership and positive character traits beyond just athletic performance.

"There are few awards in the CIF Southern Section that symbolize everything that is right and in the proper balance of education-based athletics at the high school level than this award," said St. Margaret's Director of Athletics and head football coach Dan O'Shea. "In nominating Jessica Liu and Sebastian Salazar, we did so knowing they represent everything that this award stands for and what our Tartans should always aspire to be here at St. Margaret's. We could not be prouder of these two fantastic students!"

Jessica Liu has had a storied career at St. Margaret's on the golf links and in the classroom. Liu is a 2025 American Junior Golf Association Rolex Scholastic All-American, the 2025 Pacific Coast League Golf Co-Champion, a 4-time All-League awardee and ranked in the top 30 in California and top 150 in the world for the class of 2026 golfers. Liu has served as team captain in 2025 and 2024 for the Tartans and had 12+ consecutive rounds under par her senior year.

"I couldn't be prouder of the way Jessica represents our program and school. As our two-year team captain, she led with integrity, humility, and an unwavering work ethic, always championing her teammates. She competed with class, grace, and set the standard for what it means to be a leader on and off the course," said Tartan head golf coach Danny Solarz. "The OCADA Athlete of Character award perfectly reflects who Jessica is and the impact she's had on our team."

Sebastian Salazar, a two-sport student athlete in football and baseball for the Tartans, earned All-CIF honors in 2025, was the Kappa League Defensive Player of the Year and a 2026 Orange County All-Star in football. Salazar holds St. Margaret's records for tackles in a season (164) and tackles in a career (361). He has served as football team captain for the 2024 and 2025 seasons and demonstrated his leadership abilities on and off the field.

"Sebastian is easily one of the most dynamic and influential leaders I have ever had the pleasure to coach," said O'Shea. "In the pursuit of athletic excellence, he has proven to have the perspective to compete fearlessly and fairly. He honors the game that is being played, the opponent that is across from him, and all the while making sure his teammates follow these most admired traits."
