Tartans Vie for Playoff Spot With 36-32 Win over Portola

Girls Basketball scratched out a close victory against a formidable foe.
St. Margaret's girls basketball program took a step closer to a postseason berth by downing Portola High School 36-32 Wednesday evening in Pasternack Fieldhouse. The No. 15-ranked Tartans knew they would have to leave it all out on the floor to dispatch No. 13 Portola to keep St. Margaret's CIF Playoff hopes alive after dropping an earlier contest to the Bulldogs 49-58.

Taylor Francois had another big night for St. Margaret's, dropping 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists on the night. Lila Wohlgemuth gave the Tartans a boost with 9 points, while Jayden Witten contributed 7 points and 12 rebounds. Annika Tufo contributed 6 points and 7 rebounds while Addie West generated offense all evening and kept the Tartans in rhythm from half court.

Notably, Wohlgemuth cracked the CIF Southern Section All-Time list for 3-pointers made with 251, placing her at No. 10.

The Tartans have just two league games remaining: Rosary on Jan. 30 and Sage Hill on Feb. 3. A win against No. 11 Rosary on Friday will clinch the last remaining Automatic Qualifier spot for the Tartans and send them to the CIF postseason.
