Tartans in the News: Upper School Students Spotlighted for Service

A few St. Margaret’s students have made the news recently, turning their passions into projects that have served others. Here’s a look at a few headlines Tartans have made recently:

 

St. Margaret’s Upper School student Liam Newton is on the cover of the most recent Capistrano Dispatch, as his service initiative “Silver Tech” earned him the Congressional Award Gold Certificate, Congress’ highest honor for civilian youth.

 

Silver Tech was launched by Liam to help older adults feel more confident and comfortable using their smartphones. He has hosted technology workshops at local senior centers, sharing tips on everyday smartphone tasks such as answering Facetime calls, setting up emergency contacts and avoiding common scams. Silver Tech is now a regular program at Laguna Woods Village.

Upper School student Rohen Vargo was among the 125 most influential people in Orange County in 2025, according to an end-of-year list compiled by the Orange County Register.

 

Rohen was recognized for his service project “Health in Your Hands” designed to help local residents in their basic preventative healthcare needs. Health in Your Hands was supported by St. Margaret’s Moseley Venture to Serve, a school initiative supporting members of the St. Margaret’s community with their service projects benefiting the local community.
