Tartan Equestrian Team Off to Fast Start in OCIEL Competition

St. Margaret's currently sits in first place in the Orange County Interscholastic Equestrian League.
St. Margaret's Equestrian team had a great showing at the October Orange County Interscholastic Equestrian League, with the Tartans currently in 1st place in overall school standings for the 2025-2026 season. St. Margaret's is also in 1st place in the beginner school and freshman school division standings for the season. The depth of the St. Margaret’s team, with competitors earning points in most divisions, helps secure the 1st place overall school standing.

The Tartan equestrian program wrapped up the first show of the OCIEL season on Saturday, October 25 at The Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano with impressive results. The competition drew experienced riders and a field of 36 competitors from 23 schools in the Southern California area, and the Tartans were up to the challenge.

Bella Coveyou qualified as the varsity jumpers champion, with Charlotte Coveyou capturing the junior varsity jumpers high point champion for the Tartans. In addition, Mia Zadjmool was named the freshman Equitation High Point Champion for the Tartans. Eleanora Dornin competed in the freshman jumpers class against some very tough competition and scored a second-place ribbon. Mia and Eleanora's combined results earned St. Margaret's school champion in the freshman division. The team was excited to welcome Jasmine Zhou and Zoe Gao, making their debuts as Tartan Equestrians, and scored second and third-place ribbons, respectively. The combined points earned Jasmine and Zoe school champion in the beginner division.

The Tartan Equestrian team is currently the only St. Margaret's athletic team that features students competing from Upper School, Middle School and Lower School.

"It's exciting to see all the smiles on the faces of the athletes. I hope it was a valuable experience for all. The turnout for this show was fantastic with competitors from over 23 Orange County schools. It is exciting to see St. Margaret’s represent well with such a strong team again this year" said OCIEL volunteer and show manager TJ Coveyou.

Mark your calendars for the next upcoming IEL show on January 31, 2026 at the Rancho Mission Riding Park. No ticket is required; bring your own lawn chair for a fun family day supporting the Tartan team!
