St. Margaret’s treasured holiday tradition filled the night with bright lights and holiday cheer last weekend as more than 250 attendees of the Tartan community celebrated the 16th annual PTF Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Fountain Courtyard.

The tree lighting ceremony is a yearly tradition which kicks off the holiday season at St. Margaret’s. Tartans attending the event visit with Santa Claus, decorate holiday ornaments to hang on the St. Margaret’s Christmas tree, and enjoy the comfort of hot chocolate and delicious holiday desserts. In addition, a special mailbox for messages to the North Pole was available for those young and old who wish to write letters to Santa.

The festivities included Upper School student “elves” who passed out candy and interacted with younger students, and the exciting countdown for the lighting of the 12 feet tall Christmas tree was led by Upper School ASB president Elise Peffer and Head of School Dr. Jeneen Graham.

The PTF extends special thanks to event chair Channing Freeman, tree trimming chair Erin Shapiro and all the volunteers who helped continue this cherished St. Margaret’s tradition.
